Brittany Murphy Dies At 32
Brittany Murphy, who gained fame from movies such as "8 Mile" and "Just Married" before giving voice to popular animated characters, has died at age 32. The Los Angeles County coroner's office said her death at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center appeared to be from natural causes but police were investigating.
Murphy was transported to the hospital after the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call at 8 a.m. at the home she shared with her husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, in the Hollywood Hills. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said Murphy apparently collapsed in the bathroom, and authorities were looking into her medical history.

An official cause of death may not be determined for some time, since toxicology tests will be required, but "it appears to be natural," Winter said.

Kate Hudson's Lonely New Year
Hollywood star Kate Hudson was forced to celebrate a lonely New Year's eve as her plans had been ruined following her split from Alex Rodriguez. The actress and the baseball star, who ended their seven-month relationship earlier this month, had planned to usher in 2010 by attending a host of parties in Miami, Florida. However, Kate cancelled her involvement. "They were both scheduled to appear together at several bashes. Obviously that did not happen - she cancelled," a source said. Friends of Kate have also claimed she had trouble trusting Alex.
"Kate has some trust issues with A-Rod. She doesn't know for sure if there is another woman, but there's a girl she thinks he has a crush on. She's been worrying about other women for a while and is definitely the jealous type," a friend of the actress said.

Now we’re discovering that kindness will not only make you happier, it might just help you live longer. So many things that make life rough around the edges, an indiscriminate dent in your car, a door slammed in your face, are due to lack of consideration. Imagine, for a minute, a world where everyone is just a little kinder. When you’re trying to merge in traffic, someone lets you in. At the supermarket, you allow a person in a hurry to go ahead of you. A new theory called ‘survival of the nicest’ says that because of kindness, the human race prospered as a species. In ancient societies, kindness was a key component of the survival of communities. Groups with many altruists tend to survive.
In other words, we have an in-built capacity to help others, especially those close to us, to ensure the survival of our community.

Give And Receive
Research shows kindness can also make us happier. It makes no difference to your happiness if you help a loved one or a stranger, but it may have different results. A small, anonymous act might make you feel like a good person. But a big kind act to an acquaintance may have social consequences: you might make a new friend or be generously thanked. So paying for a stranger’s coffee may give you a temporary buzz, but helping an elderly neighbour to shop may help you forge a better relationship. Kindness is good for you in other ways. Being kind is good for your health. A study found that those who regularly helped others had better mental health and lower rates of depression. Other studies found helpful people were less likely to fall ill from chronic diseases, and tended to have better immune systems. A strong correlation exists between the wellbeing, happiness and health of people who are kind. Kindness can help regulate emotions, which has a positive impact on our health. If our in-built ‘fight or flight’ response becomes overactive due to stress, it affects our cardiovascular system and weakens the body’s immunity. It’s difficult to be angry, resentful, or fearful when one is showing unselfish love towards another person.

It Can Be Tough
Kindness may be a virtue, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. There’s some level of cynicism towards kindness. The label ‘do-gooder’ isn’t a compliment. We all like the idea of being kind, but at the same time, don’t nice guys always finish last? Acting from the goodness of your heart goes directly against the ‘survival of the fittest’ theory of evolution, which says that humans are driven to compete for existence quite selfishly. Back in 1968, the researchers Bibb Latane and John Darley discovered a phenomenon known as the ‘bystander effect’: When someone needs help in a public place, they are less likely to receive help if there are more people around. Researchers believe that the effect arises because everyone takes their cue from the crowd and assumes someone else will take responsibility. In big cities, people may also feel unsafe interacting with strangers.

Feel-good Factor
But none of the above explains why we are kind when we choose to be. Sana Murad made one of the greatest sacrifices possible for someone she loved, she donated a kidney to her 57-year-old father. “It was one of the easiest things I’ve ever had to decide,” says she. It was a profound act of kindness, but one she feels she could do only for a loved one. “I don’t know why, but I don’t think I could have just randomly given a kidney away - I would probably only consider it for a family member,” she says. “At the same time, giving my dad my kidney did help someone else, because dad’s no longer on the organ donor waiting list, so someone can take his place.”
Sana’s father may be able to thank his genes twice over for his daughter’s kindness. A 2005 study found a link between kindness and a gene that releases dopamine, a feel good neurotransmitter in the brain. A research found that helpers reported a distinct physical sensation when being kind. Many reported feeling more energetic, warm, calmer and greater self-worth, a phenomenon he calls the ‘helper’s high. Some scientists say that because we’re altruistic only for the good of the group and to get a dopamine rush, it means kindness is actually, well, selfish. Probably most altruism is self-interest at some level.

Giving Freely

Kindness has another similarity with happiness - it can’t be bought. Economists often make the mistake of assuming people are inherently selfish and that we will only do something good for a financial reward or to avoid a fine. But a report, published last year, found otherwise.The report was about a research on six childcare centres that started inflicting fines on parents who were late picking up their children. After the fines were introduced, parents were twice as likely to be late. A similar study also found women were actually less likely to donate blood if they were paid.
We resent the idea that our principles can be bought: we prefer to do good deeds for their own sake. People enjoy being kind to others much as they enjoy eating ice-cream. It gives us pleasure.

Little Seeds Of Love
One synonym for the word kindness is the term humanity. Kindness is essentially a recognition of the fact that we’re all human, an acknowledgement that we’re all in this together. Most of what makes life worth living depends on at least some of us being altruistic some of the time. We cannot address problems like global climate change, the spread of disease and political violence by appealing only to selfish motives.
The good news is that it’s easy to train ourselves to the kinder. People should simply do more acts of kindness than they usually do, and do them on a regular basis, like five sets of kindness every Monday. Kindness, then, is just a matter of choice, an attitude you carry with you that you can make a difference, however small, in someone else’s life. Kindness has to begin within ourselves. Sometimes we keep people out to keep ourselves safe, but that also isolates us from the rest of the world. Every major religion has love as a universal principle. Kindness takes love to a gentler and more accessible level that most people feel comfortable with. Showing a little bit of kindness to people recognises that everyone around you is just like yourself.

Reeves To Take DNA Test To Finally Clear His Name
Keanu Reeves has finally agreed to take a DNA test to prove once and for all that he is not the father of a Canadian woman’s kids. Earlier this year, Reeves was sued for paternity by 45-year-old Karen Sala, who insists the actor fathered at least one of her four adult children.
During initial hearings, Sala claimed Reeves had admitted being the dad and even visited the kids on a regular basis. He, however, has always insisted he’s never even met Sala.
The DNA test is to take place within the next four weeks, but Reeves has also demanded that Sala’s husband give samples too and that the tests are performed at an LA laboratory of his choice.

The girlfriend of Miley Cyrus’ latest co-star is blaming the teen singer for splitting up their five-year romance.
Cyrus has been filming The Last Song with 18-year-old Aussie Liam Hensworth and was rumoured to have become close to her colleague after she was spotted cosying up with him at a Nashwille airport last month.
Although Cyrus herself denies any romance, that’s not how Hemsworth’s long-term squeeze Laura Griffin sees it. She says that as soon as Hemsworth returned home, she was dumped and she reckons Miley was the cause.

Dirty Dancing Star Patrick Swayze Dies At 57
Patrick Swayze personified a particular kind of masculine grace both on and off screen, from his roles in films like Dirty Dancing and Ghost to the way he carried himself in his long fight with pancreatic cancer. Swayze died from the illness On September 14 in Los Angeles, his publicist said. He was 57.
“Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months,” said Annett Wolf in a statement. She declined to give details.
Fans of the actor were saddened to learn in March 2008 that Swayze was suffering from a deadly form of cancer. He continued working despite the diagnosis, putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting The Beast, a drama series for which he had already made the pilot.
Swayze said he chose not to use painkillers while making The Beast because they would have taken the edge off his performa-nce. The show drew a respect-able 1.3 million viewers when the 13 episodes ran this year.

An international pizza chain has introduced a size zero pizza and implied that it is inspired by Kareena Kapoor, the Bollywood diva with the most fashionable size on her.
Kareena, who was out of the country wasn’t even aware of this latest ‘tribute’ to her till sister Karisma Kapoor, a Delhiite, called in to tell her that her friends were all tripping over the size zero pizza.
Kareena has been a pizza fan for the longest time.
“I love Italian food,’’ says Bebo. “I must eat pizza at least twice a week; and yes, I’m flattered that a pizza has been named after me.’’ But, she added, “Honestly speaking, I’m no longer a size zero. The island’s other natural charms include sweeping, sandy beaches and tiny coves lapped by the shimmering blue Aegean Sea, as well as pine-clad mountains, shady valleys and rare wildlife. There are man-made attractions too: ancient ruins, medieval towns, picture-postcard villages and tiny churches smelling of incense, not to mention an enticing assortment of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.

Bustling Rhodes Town

The jewel in the island’s sightseeing crown is the capital, Rhodes Town, especially the fabulous, walled Old Town. Its narrow streets, with cobbles worn to a shine by centuries of visitors and lined by ancient stone mansions, are wonderfully atmospheric. Top of everyone’s list of must-see sights is the impressive Palace of the Grand Masters, crammed with treasures such as Roman mosaics, thousand-year-old frescoes and medieval cannons. The other main museums are down the hill, at the bottom of the historic street of the Knights, first laid out more than 2,400 years ago. Housed in another medieval palace, the Archaeological Museum is full of classical statues, tombs and altars.
Of course, it’s not all about sightseeing. Many of the main lanes are lined with tempting shops selling everything from natural sponges and jewellery, to ceramics and rugs. Don’t be shy about wandering off down quieter alleyways. You can’t get too lost, and you might stumble on something interesting along the way. The Turkish bath, which dates from the 15th century and is still in use with separate section for men and women is worth a watch.

Picture-postcard Lindos
This picturesque village is delightful, with white, sugar-cube houses clustered round a shallow bay overlooked by a castle. There’s no traffic noise; cars are banned from its winding alleyways, making it a relaxing place to stroll. It’s also a bit of a climb to the castle or Acropolis to give it its proper name. Inside the medieval walls of the Acropolis are much older remains, including Roman temples, Greek cellars and so on. For most people, the real reason for the trip is for the spectacular views: the village itself, the sparkling blue sea and sleek yachts bobbing in the bay, set against a soundtrack of chirruping crickets.
If you haven’t spent all your money on an embroidered tablecloth from the women that line the path up to the castle, there’s more temptation in the village’s bazaar area.
Natural Rhodes
For many visitors, it’s the beauty of Rhodes’ seaside-golden sand or fine shingle lapped by crystal-clear water that’s the real draw. However, the island boasts more unusual sights inland that can be just as appealing on a hot day. The most visited is Petaloudes, or Butterfly Valley. From June to September, this small, wooded valley is home to thousands of tiger moths, who flourish in the cool, damp air. Even when they aren’t there, it’s a lovely spot for a walk, with waterfalls, streams and plenty of greenery including a tree that smells of vanills.
Between Butterfly Valley and Lindos is Seven Springs (Epta Piges), another watery, shady retreat of plane and pine trees. There’s a maze of footpaths connecting the springs, but the truly adventurous will head for the 600ft-long tunnel that leads to a turquoise lake in a pine-clad gorge. There are peacocks living in the area, though you’re more likely to hear them than catch a glimpse of one. Just on the outskirts of Rhodes Town, easily reached by bus, Rodini Park is a good place to rest in the shade of cypress and pine trees; go to the tiny zoo to see rare Rhodian deer, which normally live only in the mountains; or visit an ancient Greek cemetery.

• Some women think that if they keep their hair all one length the way it was in high school, everyone will think they’re still in high school.

How am I supposed to remember exactly how I did your hair the last time? If you want a carbon copy of a cut and style you loved, take a picture and show me.
• Why do you think a Child’s haircut should cost less than yours? Kids don’t sit still. Kids kick. It’s an intense experience.
• Standing all day and using scissors and a blow-dryer takes its toll – I have arthritis in my fingers, calcium deposits in my wrist, and 10% less hearing than I used to. I am a physical wreck.
• We see women at their worst. Their hair is wet, they have foils on their hair, they have no make up on. There’s nothing for them to hide behind. So they tell us everything. The truth is, the stylist really don’t care what they do in their private lives.

Sun, sea and romance are on the menu for Prince William and his girlfriend Kate Middleton after they jetted to the Caribbean isle of Mustique for an intimate vacation. The trip came just days after the attractive brunette returned from a family holiday on the island.

Life Without 28 Feet Of Fingernails
A Salt Lake City woman who held the Guinness record for longest fingernails says a car crash that broke them has been a blessing because she never could have cut them herself. The 68-year-old woman Lee Redmond hadn't cut her nails since 1979. They measured a total of 28 feet, 4 inches, with the longest one on her right thumb at 2 feet, 11 inches.
But she lost them during an accident that threw her from the car. "The first thing I spotted was a fingernail, and I thought,' Oh.' Then I started to cry and said, ‘There's one of my fingernails,' " Lee Redmond reveals. "A sweet lady picked them up and I told her they were a Guinness world record, so she went around and gathered fragments of fingernails. It was just something I had to accept because I couldn't change anything," says Redmond, in her first comments about life without the long nails.

Mourinho ‘Should Speak Less’
When Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho, who has referred to himself as a “Special One”, substituted Ghanaian international Sulley Muntari after just 30 minutes of their game against Bari, he could never have imagined what storm the substitution would unleash.
However, it was probably not so much the substitution, but what Mourinho said afterwards, that set the wheels in motion.
The Portuguese coach reportedly said: “Muntari had some problems related to Ramadan, perhaps with this heat it’s not good for him to be doing this fasting”.

Ditch Suit And Save Power
The Bangladeshi Prime Minister has ordered public servants to ditch suits and ties for short-sleeved shirts to cut air-conditioning use in the power-staved nation.
Shaikh Hasina first raised the idea at a cabinet meeting last month and asked her colleagues to set an example for other government employees.
“She told us to avoid suits and ties on hot days and to wear plain, simple shirts,” said communications minister Syed Abdul Husain.
“The Prime Minister pointed out that air conditioning is a luxury and if we wear lighter clothing we will need to use less AC. I’ve already noticed top public servants are no longer wearing suits and ties.”
The official dress code for civil servants, written in 1982, was last week altered to accommodate Hasina’s instructions.
Last month her government unveiled a $6 billion power plant building programme to end a chronic energy shortage in the country.

Faux Pas
A bank in the southeast US state of Florida refused to cash a cheque for an armless man because he could not provide a thumbprint.
“They looked at my prosthetic hands and the teller said, ‘Well, obviously you can’t give us a thumbprint’,” Steve Valdez said.
But he said the Bank of America Corp branch in downtown Tampa, Florida, still insisted on a thumbprint identification for him to cash a cheque drawn on his wife’s account at the bank, even though he showed them two photo IDs.
In the incident, a bank supervisor told Valdez he could only cash the cheque without a thumbprint if he brought his wife in with him or he opened an account with them. “I told them I neither wanted account with them and couldn’t bring my wife in be-cause she was nowhere close by,” Valdez said. Bank of America said in a statement: “While the thumbprint is a requirement for those who don’t have accounts, the bank should have made accommodations.”

Perfect Storm
The fabled beauty of the Kremlin’s golden onion domes dusted with winter snow may be a thing of the past under a scheme by the Moscow mayor, to banish snow from the capital.
“Why don’t we keep this snow outside the Moscow city limits?” Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, who has a well-established track record of micro-managing Moscow’s weather, was quoted as saying. “For the countryside, this means more moisture and bigger harvests. And for us – less snow,” Luzhkov said, recalling that Moscow already relies on special cloud - seeding techniques to guarantee clear skies on key holidays.
Under Luzhkov’s proposal, the skies would be cleared whenever snow-laden clouds-a regular and natural feature of the Moscow winter cityscape - approached the sprawling Russian metropolis.
The mayor said preventing snowfall would offer advantages to city residents, including significant cost savings since operations to clear snow from streets cost three times more than stopping snowfall altogether.
Cloud-sweeping operations over Moscow however often produce heavy precipitation in outlying areas. Experts said the plan was fraught with unpredictable consequences.

We all know that sugar is linked to tooth decay, but some skin specialists believe that too much can also age our skin. While the outer layers of our skin are mostly dead, the layer of flattened cells underneath, called the dermis, could not be more alive. It’s continually making new cells, processing nutrients and oxygen and fighting off the detrimental effects of free radicals produced by overexposure to sun and pollution.
Within the dermis lies collagen, a protein-based tissue. Collagen fibres run lengthways in our face and neck and give our skin its long-term stretchability, firmness and structure. When collagen is damaged, wrinkles begin to form and our faces begin to sag.
This is where sugar comes in. When levels of sugar in our blood are raised, it seems that the sugar latches on to collagen fibres, making them tough, hard and lacking in their natural elastic properties. This makes our skin less able to ping back into shape after we laugh, smile or frown, so the lines formed when doing so become permanent.
The important thing to grasp is that it’s not just the obvious suspects that send blood sugar levels up - like that spoonful of sugar in an espresso or a bowl of cornflakes. Levels of sugar in our blood also rise when we eat foods with a high glycaemic index (known as high GI foods). Although they’re not always obviously sugary, they’re digested very rapidly after eating, and so they raise sugar levels quickly. Swapping to low GI options is a crucial part of your anti-ageing plan, as well as saying no to a piece of cake or a mid-morning biscuit. But it can be as simple as swapping a piece of high GI stick (rapidly digested and raises your blood sugar quickly) with your soup at lunchtime to a slice of lower GI granary toast, which slowly increases blood sugar.
As well as being a smart wrinkle-beating trick, this way of eating also keeps you feeling full-so the chances are you’ll not only end up with better skin you could drop a few pounds in the process as well.

So, for a short break, you can opt for North Devon and the Exmoor National Park that hugs the coast between Ilfracombe in the west and the Somerset towns of Minehead to the east, and Dulverton to the south.

Wild And Wonderful
Somehow softer in aspect and with more woodland than Dartmoor, its larger neighbour, Exmoor is threaded with streams, rock-strewn rivers and waterfalls. It’s home to spectacular red deer and its own unique breed of wild pony, as well as many rare birds and beasts, and myriad seabirds that nest on the steep cliffs overlooking secluded inlets and pebble beaches. The diversity of landscape, flora and fauna in a comparatively small area make Exmoor perfect for walking, rambling, riding, nature watching and fishing. It is here that Richard Blackmore was inspired to write Lorna Doone and the countryside in which this epic romantic novel is set remains largely unchanged.

Timeless Style
Lynmouth was originally a fishing village and harbour that served the community of Lynton directly above it on the cliff top. Access across the moor was difficult by road, so provisions would arrive here by boat and be carried up the steep roads to Lynton by horse and donkey. There are some nice shops and lots of well-appointed hotels and guest houses in and around the towns and a good selection of restaurants.

Coastal Walks
This region has interesting historic towns to visit, such as Barnstaple (the largest and oldest in North Devon), Great Torrington (with its civil war connections) and the market towns of South Molton, Holsworthy and Hatherleigh. Along the coast, there are intimate coves to explore, like those at Combe Martin, as well as busier traditional seaside resorts, and the splendid beach at Westward Ho! near Bideford. Coastal walks offer spectacular views both of nature, and man-made marvels such as the lighthouse at Hartland Point.
Also well worth a visit is the wonderful village of Clovelly that’s clung to the cliff-side since the 14th century. Many of its houses date from this period. Spend a day here, exploring and enjoying.
Finally, if gardens are your thing, you could spend an entire holiday in them. The tourist office lists ten, including the RHS Garden, Rosemoor, just a mile from Great Torrington.

The biggest, most encompassing tip I can give is mix things up. Mix up the colors, mix up the looks, and always always mix up the emphasis. Don’t wear dark eyeshadow and liner in combination with burgundy lips or you’ll risk looking overdone.

Tip #1: You can get away with color. There are some sultry looks lighter haired girls can’t pull off as well as you without toning them down a notch. The traditional, sexy smoky look is much better left to the raven-haired girls, especially when they have dark skin, too. Mixing blacks and grays with nearly excessive amounts of eyeliner and a hint of silver shimmer for a night out looks stunning with the right frame around it and can look even scary with a light hair color attempting to embrace it.

Tip #5: Bronzer is your friend. At least some point in every girl’s life, she wishes she had a tan if she doesn’t. A lot of brown haired girls feel they don’t quite look right if they don’t have dark skin to match (I’m not agreeing with that notion, just offering tips). Some of us are so fair skinned we couldn’t get a tan if we were left on a deserted island for 3 years or, on a more realistic scale, hopped in the tanning bed every day for six months. Bronzers and sunless tanners are healthier alternatives to tans for those who can achieve them from the sun and the only option for those who can’t tan. So if you need a tan to feel good about yourself, turn to sunless tanners and bronzers for an instant boost. And they do look very good with dark hair.

Tip #6: If you’re pale, love it. Renee Zelwegger and Reese Witherspoon recently went brunette with their pale skin. Did they hop in the tanning beds or go for heavy airbrush tanning? Nope! And you know what? They still look hot.

Tip #7: Red lipstick during the day is a faux pas. Even though this is a tip for everyone and not just brunettes, I decided to throw it in. Bright red lips during the day are usually a bit too shocking on everyone else’s eyes. Tone it down a little. Just because you have dark hair and red lips look outstanding with it, you don’t have to wear it all the time. If you love red too much to let it go, opt for a gloss version. It’s sheerer and juicy, not scandalous.

Tip #8: Sport the ruby lips if you wish! Don’t wear bold reds during the day but matte wine lipsticks can look fine for daytime wear if you keep your eye makeup muted and your hair’s on the darker end of the brunette spectrum.

Tip #9: Wear brown shadow: Brown shadow looks good with all hair colors and eye colors. It works especially well with brunettes because it ties their face and hair into one complete picture. Added bonus: it makes blue eyes really stand out (try bronze for blue eyes!).

Tip #10: Skip the brown and be different! Of all the hair colors out there, brown haired girls can get away with the most palettes. After a long day at work, I really like to cook. I actually find cooking dinner a really nice routine, especially after working, it makes me feel sort of normal again. There is something nice about the routine. Often when you’re working, you’re travelling around a lot and you feel kind of disconnected – so I find having a routine like coming home and cooking dinner every day sort of makes me feel more at home.

How does it feel to be regarded as an icon and a role model?
I always thought you reached icon status after you left this world. I never signed up to be a role model as such. Of course, ever since I was a little girl I had an idea of what I wanted to do – which was to pursue my dream of being a successful actor. If that makes me a role model for people to look up to, then I suppose I am flattered by it. So it’s important to keep your head straight and focus on your goal.

I don’t know. There are so many beautiful women out there.

You wear a lot of gorgeous gowns, but what three essential pieces of clothing could you not live without?

I think my style is sort of a New York sense of style. Practical, casual, but well-tailored. And I have a lot of dark colours in my wardrobe, a lot of grey and black. Venezuelan Stefania Fernandez has been crowned the new Miss Universe at a glitterati event that took place at Atlantis on Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas, on August 23. The new Miss Universe was selected from among young women from 83 countries.
The official decision was made at the Atlantis Resort by a 12-person judging panel that included Andre Leon Talley, the editor-at-large for American Vogue, actor Dean Cain and supermodel Valeria Mazza. Fernandez will receive a monetary prize, the size of which has been kept confidential.
The top award also includes a 100,000-dollar scholarship to study acting at an academy in New York, a five-day vacation package in the Bahamas for two, a set of jewellery and a complete wardrobe.
The main event was hosted by Celebrity Apprentice star Claudia Jordan and Access Hollywood co-anchor Billy Bush, and included performances by rapper Flo Rida, singers David Guetta and Kelly Rowland and reality star Heidi Montag.
It was Venezuela's sixth Miss Universe crown in the 59-year history of the
pageant.
Fernandez, 18, inherited the Miss Universe crown from another Venezuelan,
Dayana Mendoza, who won the competition in 2008. During her reign, Mendoza
travelled around the globe as an advocate for HIV/Aids education, research and
legislation. The newly crowned Miss Universe is expected to do the same.
Two other young women from Latin America made it to the top five: Ada de la Cruz, 23, of the Dominican Republic and Mayra Matos, 20, of Puerto Rico.
The top group also included young women from Australia and Kosovo.

“The main attraction for contestants is an opportunity to break into and establish themselves in the lucrative world of show business,” organisers said.
"Women who seek the title of Miss Universe are driven by their desires to open for themselves new opportunities in the world of acting and entertainment," Acirema Alayeto, president of Miss Latin America Organisation, said.
The competition included the swimsuit presentation in Grand Bahama, a costume presentation, a fashion showcase featuring local designs and fabrics and a state auction dinner in New Providence.
The pageant was viewed by an estimated worldwide viewing audience of approximately one billion people.

Aniston Has The Best Personal Chef

Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston says that her celebrity friends prefer her home cooked food over expensive gourmet cuisine as her personal chef is the best cook in town.
The 40-year-old actress said that her home is their favourite eating joint and therefore she never has to dine alone.
“My friends love coming over, because they get fed. It's the best restaurant in town,” said Aniston.
“Her friends are in and out all the time. Jen's a homebody. It's been so much fun to create a place where everybody feels comfortable, like one big family,” said Jewels Elmore, who works as Aniston's private chef.
And Aniston credits her chef for introducing her to delicacies which she hated earlier.
“I used to hate fish but one day Jewels handed me this thing, and I tasted it.”
Salmon is now the actress' favourite along with brussels sprouts, another dish Aniston once disdained.

Sylvester To Be Awarded At Venice Film Festival
Sylvester Stallone will receive Glory to the Filmmaker award at Venice Film Festival this year.
Organisers have described him as "a very original filmmaker" and added that his films were "capable of tenderness even when dripping with blood".
They said in a statement: "Stallone's work has explored the brightest and darkest areas of the American dream." The ‘Rambo’ star is happy he is being recognised at the Italian event in which his stint as an actor and director in Hollywood will be one of the major highlights. "Being honoured at the Venice Film Festival is something I have always hoped would become a reality and now that it’s actually happened, it’s been well worth the wait," he said. The award is generally given to a person who has left a mark on contemporary cinema.
The 66th Venice Film Festival is scheduled from 2 September to 12 September.”

Victoria Beckham was said to have lived up to her Spice Girls’ nickname “Posh” after speaking in an accent resembling that of Queen Elizabeth II in a recent interview. The former singer was interviewed by Sky News presenter Eamonn Holmes, who noticed that the star had ditched her Essex-style vowels. Victoria was said to have revealed her new cut glass voice while discussing her new job as a judge on American Idol .
“I am so excited, I am just so happy to be a part of the show. I am a huge fan and so are my boys and so is David, so to be part of it is just great,” she said.
Holmes later commented: “Now the most interesting thing about all that to me is that Posh has now gone posh. A little bit of an American accent in there, but actually a very nice speaking voice.”

Is it an expensive mistake? Foundations and lipsticks tend to be the most common beauty blunders, as we often buy the wrong shades. It is suggested to keep lipsticks to mix together for a new shade, but sometimes you have to be brutal. If a foundation is the wrong shade for your skin, there’s usually no way to salvage it - expensive or not.

Is it the wrong shade for the season?
As we move to autumn, put aside the light, shimmery shades that work with a summer glow: you need different shades and textures now. And, come spring, you’ll need to do the same thing again.

The vampire drama Twilight drove a stake through the 11th annual "Teen Choice 2009" awards held recently, winning 11 trophies in a ceremony also notable for its celebration of musical acts new and not-so-new.
Audience members thirsting for a glimpse of the Twilight stars were not disappointed, as the film won best drama as well as acting awards for leads Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart and supporting stars Cam Gigandet, Ashley Greene and Taylor Lautner.
Pattinson was also named Choice Male Hottie. "I really appreciate it. I have to say, the hottest teens of the year are Twilight' fans!," he told the crowd during the event, which was aired recently on a private channel.
Choice Female Hottie went to Megan Fox, star of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Music largely dominated the proceedings otherwise.
The Jonas Brothers hosted the show and won five of the surfboard-shaped awards, including breakout show (Jonas). And Miley Cyrus won six, including best single (The Climb) and acting awards for the TV and movie versions of Hannah Montana. Cyrus also presented her "hero," Britney Spears, with the Ultimate Choice Award. "Thank you guys so much," said Spears, looking fit in a short one-shoulder black sequined dress as fans chanted her name. "I'm so happy to be here tonight with all of you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much. God bless!"
Gossip Girl also won big, winning best drama and acting awards for Chace Crawford, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick.
Zac Efron also won multiple acting awards, for his performances in High School Musical 3 and 17 Again.
Some of the show's extracurriculars went over better than others.
As part of a Dare the Jonas Brothers segment, Nick Jonas was dared to hug as many fans as he could in 20 seconds - including surprise fan Kim Kardashian - and Joe Jonas, blindfolded, had his hair cut by Mike Tyson.
The awards were selected by more than 83 million votes cast online. The show took place at Universal Studios.

¼ cup cold milk
½ cup chopped bitter sweet or cooking chocolate
½ cup milk
2/3 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla essence
2 cups whipped fresh cream

Method
Combine gelatine and cold milk and let stand for five minutes. Combine chocolate and ½ cup milk and let it melt on a double boiler until smooth. Combine gelatine mixture, add vanilla essence. When mixture is cold and starts thickening, add whipped cream and fold in gently. Pour in serving glasses and refrigerate until chilled. Serve with a chocolate garnish.

Purpose of Eye Shadow

Eye shadow goes on each entire lid and sometimes in the space between your lids and your eyebrows. It comes in a variety of colours and also several different forms, including cream (good for dry skin), matte (good for oily skin) and pencil (good for all types of skin).

Apart from colour, there is a choice of forms of the eye shadows. You can choose from pressed powders, pencils, sticks, gels, crayons and creams. INGREDIENTS

2 cups boiling water
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, softened
2 1/4 cups white sugar
4 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease 3 - 9 inch round cake pans. In medium bowl, pour boiling water over cocoa, and whisk until smooth. Let mixture cool. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt; set aside.
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at time, then stir in vanilla. Add the flour mixture alternately with the cocoa mixture. Spread batter evenly between the 3 prepared pans.
Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Allow to cool.

From being selected for the prestigious National Opus Honour Choir (at the US state level), to winning the ‘Miss India’ and ‘Miss World’ crowns, and now getting into a vocation that she never imagined she would be in some day… acting, destiny has played a big hand in shaping Priyanka’s life. But it is also through sheer hard work and dedication that she has converted these opportunities into success. Here are excerpts of an interview she gave to an international magazine:

I am Priyanka Chopra and positivity is my middle name, and this reflects in everything I do.
I give complete credit for this to my parents who made sure I had a wonderful childhood.
I was born in Jamshedpur. Both my parents are doctors - my dad, Captain Dr Ashok Chopra, was a commissioned officer and surgeon in the Indian Army Medical Corps and my mum, Dr Madhu, is a noted gynaecologist and cosmetologist. I also have a brother Sidharth, who is seven years younger to me.
Our entire family and extended family are very closely knit and there is always a lot of love, laughter and joy whenever we are together. As a kid, I led a very carefree and happy life. I enjoyed every moment of being a child.
We were army-ites and I remember moving from state to state every two years - each time my dad got transferred.
Constantly moving also meant that I kept changing schools. I studied in some of the best schools across India, did my 10th grade from Newton’s Newton North High School in Boston.
I was academically inclined and topped my class most of the time. I was especially good in English and extra-curricular activities. In USA, I was selected at the state level for the National Opus Honour Choir, which is indeed a major feat.
Acting, stardom and Bollywood were alien terms for me, as nobody in my family has ever been a part of the film industry.
It all started with the Miss India contest. I was very young then - just 17! My mom sent my photographs for the contest without my knowledge. But when I got a call from them that I was short-listed, I came to Mumbai. The competition was tough but I thrive best when I am pushed to the edge. I won the ‘Miss India’ title!
For quite some time, I used to sleep with my crown because I was scared someone would rob it.
After that, films happened. I tasted success early - with ‘Andaaz’ and ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’, which was one of the biggest grosser of the year. The turning point in my film career happened with ‘Aitraaz’, in which I played a negative role.
I’ve never had any problems with any of my co-stars and as long as I’m comfortable with my role, I’m happy!

I agree rumours, controversies and gossip are part ‘n’ parcel of an actor’s life. Day in and day out, according to the media, we are either having catfights with other heroines or being linked with somebody -sometimes with people we have not even met. I guess this is an occupational hazard. But I am not prepared for it and I’ll never be prepared. So what if I am an actress? I am a girl and I am answerable to my parents too. I have made it my principle to never talk about my personal life.
What I do want to talk about are some of the social causes I support, like education of the girl child.
It is imperative that the girl child is encouraged and nurtured. The true sign of progress is when the girl child flourishes.
Another cause that is very close to my heart is the need to give masses proper medical information. My dad was very ill and we really felt the need for such information. We need to spread awareness so that more people are helped…
Life shows you so many amazing experiences - some good, some bad. But I love being me and I would never want to be anybody else, ever! On the downside, I’m just an over emotional fool. But besides this, I am fine!
